MINDY Fraser and family will swap T-bones for tofu as part of Meat Free Week.
As a self-described adventurous cook, Mrs Fraser is used to preparing healthy meals but this will be her first experience living meat-free for an entire week.
The Sutherland Shire family will avoid all meat on March 24-30 and urge others to join them, sponsor people for missing out on meat, or research how their meat is produced.
"I don't eat a lot of meat and I try to give the kids balance in their diet and try to avoid processed food," she said.
"This is a chance to get creative and force yourself to stick to it.
"Rather than having chicken and pumpkin stir-fry I will add tofu instead.
"It is an easy approach which makes it approachable."
Australians eat almost three times the global amount of meat, organisers of Meat Free Week say.
Mrs Fraser said it was a great opportunity to encourage her young children to eat more fruit and vegetables while raising money for a charity.
"My grandfather had bowel cancer, so I chose Bowel Cancer Australia and I have raised $100 so far. I hope to make it to $200."
