CARSS Park FC Club, which plays in the St George Football Association, continues to be a community leader on and off the field.
In a difficult year in which widely respected club president Darryl Hancock died in May, the strength of the club's members has galvanised.
One of Hancock's visions was to be inclusive and by making football for everyone.
He was paramount in establishing The Special Needs Football Fund, to allow opportunity for all children and young adults to play the game in the St George area.
Its work begins next year.
At the club's recent world cup dinner, Hancock was made a life member. .
It will be the only life membership honour awarded by the club this year.
After the death of Hancock and Matt Richardson from Forest Rangers, there has been a much heightened awareness of men's heart health by players in the over-35s and over-45 age groups.
Carss Park FC publicity officer Penny Hancock said the number of men being checked had markedly increased.
"This is a growing participation age group and both men would be pleased to know the direct difference they are making in the profile of men's health in our area," Ms Hancock said.
The club's gala day award has been renamed the Darryl Hancock Shield.
Leading into the last few games of the season with the finals starting on August 16-17, many Carss Park FC competition teams, 12 out of 17, are in finals contention.
Rentokil is the club's major sponsor.
Ms Hancock said the club fields 37 teams from under-sixes, boys, girls and the all-age groups.
