THEY might be dressed in blue (and black and white) normally, but the Cronulla Sharks players have been doing their very best recently to "green up" the environment.
Tyrone Peachey, Josh Corboda, Ricky Leutele, Tyrone Viiga, Stewart Mills and Siosia Feki put smiles on the young faces of many schoolchildren when they got down and dirty with kids from Como West and Jannali public schools to plant new trees along nearby nature strips.
The tree planting was part of Sutherland Shire Council's push to green Soldiers Road and Wolgar Street, between the two schools.
Council officers partnered students from the schools' "green teams" to replace trees in the area that had been removed because they were deemed inappropriate species, were poorly located and/or nearing the end of their life.
Each tree was individually tagged by the students who volunteered to plant them.
Council officers will rely on adjoining residents to help nurture the trees by watering them in coming weeks.
