More than 50 community projects in St George have received funding in the state government’s Community Building Partnerships program.
A total of $1.6 million will be split by groups in the Rockdale, Kogarah, Oatley and Lakemba electorates.
Each electorate was allocated $400,000, which was $100,000 above the base level of $300,000 because of higher levels of social disadvantage as indicated by unemployment rates.
Major grants included $80,000 to Arncliffe Scots Baseball Club for floodlighting, $75,000 to 3Bridges Community to upgrade the Pole Depot community hall and $51,000 for a lighting upgrade for netball courts used by St George District Netball Association at Rockdale.
Applications were invited from councils and not-for-profit bodies including charities, churches, sporting, social and environmental groups.
Projects are required to be completed before March 31, 2016.
MPs Cherie Burton (Kogarah), Mark Coure (Oatley), John Flowers (Rockdale) and Robert Furolo (Lakemba) detailed the grants:
