Attorney-General Brad Hazzard promoted the Coalition’s proposed $10 million community safety fund during a visit to Sutherland.
Mr Hazzard met with Liberal candidates Lee Evans (Heathcote) Eleni Petinos (Miranda) and Mark Speakman (Cronulla) at Sutherland courthouse.
He said the new fund would enable community and business groups to address local crime ‘‘hot spots’’ and anti-social behaviour, and promote safety in public spaces.
Groups could apply for up to $250,000 for projects which demonstrated a community safety and crime prevention benefit, he said.
Mr Hazzard said, as was the case across NSW, crime numbers had fallen in several categories in Sutherland Shire under the Coalition government.
There had been a steep decline in non-domestic violence related assault and stealing from a person, while domestic violence related assault and stealing from dwellings remained stable.
