ST GEORGE Junior Rugby Football League Inc’s 2015 grand finals were decided on Saturday and Sunday at Jubilee Oval.
Secretary Cathy Crowe said premiership deciders were played in the junior and senior age groups.
‘‘We had a total of 99 teams and 1596 players and officials registered this season, and overall 170 teams including the Sydney Combined Competitions we’re involved in,’’ Crowe said.
The SCC competitions include St George and involve several junior leagues across Sydney from the under-13s to first grade competitions.
One of the success stories this year has been Renown United under-17s second division team, who were victorious in their grand final on Saturday, thumping East Hills Bulldogs 26-6.
Rookie coach Craig Faulkner, 30, steered the team through undefeated in 18 games as they scored 392 points and conceding just 151.
Faulkner played on the wing for Renown since under-10s until this year before he started coaching.
He praised the team’s efforts, commitment and ability to win the premiership.
Renown United is the club to produce many great players including one of the Four original Immortals, the late Reg Gasnier, and top halfback Billy Smith.
