A Sutherland Shire educator that teaches children the art of numbers is partnering with primary schools to create coders of the future.
ScopeIT Education aims to build skills in information, communication and technology, from coding to 3D printing, electronics to robotics.
Its joint venture with the Australian Principal Association addresses the federal government’s goal of increasing knowledge of science, technology, engineering and technology (STEM) in primary schools.
The course aligns with the NSW Board of Studies and Department of Education curriculum and outcomes.
ScopeIT is a new business in the Shire but operates in other areas of Sydney.
This term it launched its year 3-6 weekly program – Introduction to Coding, at Miranda North Public School.
Next term it will teach Kindergarten to year 2 pupils.
Pupils learn the basics of building websites, creating apps, researching on Google, and learn about safe online behaviour.
Owner of the business, Sheree Coleman, said the course was in line with 21st century learning.
“As parents and educators we are starting to see how important being literate in this new digital age is becoming,” she said.
“This is a new challenge that solutions are thankfully now in place for.
“I’m proud to be delivering such relevant and important content to the children in our area.”
