WITNESSES are urged to come forward as investigations continue into a suspicious shopping centre fire in Hurstville on Saturday afternoon.
Just before 2pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to a department store at a shopping centre on Park Road following reports of fire alarms activated.
An off-duty Rural Fire Service officer attended to the blaze which had erupted in the manchester section of the department store using a fire extinguisher.
Staff and customers were evacuated and the fire was extinguished a short time later. No one was injured; however, about 30 square metres of the store was damaged.
Officers from St George Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
As inquiries into the incident continue, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
The incident is being treated as suspicious.
