A free outdoor movie for families at retail centre Caringbah Home will go ahead on Saturday night, March 18, even if it’s still raining.
Disney movie Zootopia is scheduled to start at sunset, about 7.15pm, in the top level car park.
Marketing manager Donna Godwin said families should not be deterred by the weather.
“We have an underground area we can use, so it will be going ahead regardless,” she said.
”We are asking people to check our Facebook page on Saturday for updates.”
This is the second year, the centre, which is owned by Aventus, has staged an outdoor movie for families.
“Last year, we had about 1000 people here,” Ms Godwin said.
“We have found at our other centres there is usually double the number in the second year.”
Grass matting will cover part of the car park and, as only a limited number of bean bags and deck chairs are available, families are encouraged to bring their own seating.
The event will start at 4pm with a range of “freebies”, including face painting, glow sticks, lolly pops, magic candy, a free tea towel and popcorn.
Entertainment prior to the movie will include competitions such as ‘count the DVD stack’, spot the difference, make a scene kids activity class a jumping castle and nostalgia with a Marty and his Emu show.
The Sharks NRL trophy will be on display, with the opportunity for “selfies”.
Rotary Club of Sylvania will provide a barbecue, with proceeds going to charity.
Café at Home will have pasta meal deals at $12 main size and $8 for children.
Some stores are offering a “VIP Evening” for shoppers.
Aventus recently received development consent from Sutherland Shire Council to stage an outdoor movie event once a year up until 2022.
“Our community is important to us, and being able to put on an evening event such as this is great,” said newly appointed centre manager Janette van Straten.
Caringbah Home is located on Taren Point Road, with entry via Koonya Circuit (opposite Bunnings) or Willawong Road.
