Re the article ‘‘Football dream a sure bet: Chinese company backs A-League bid’’ (Leader, March 8).
As much as I would like to have a "Southern Sydney" team, I would like to have a team based from Wollongong/South Coast region first.
They have the backing of powerbroker Bruce Gordon and have the backing of the existing Wollongong Wolves Football Club.
Apparently, Sydney FC has a big supporters fan-base in the Cronulla and St George regions.
If that was the case, then surely they can bring one game to "Shark Park" and one to Kogarah Oval per season, even if it is against the lowly-supported away teams.
One game at Kogarah Oval from Sydney FC in the last seven years (against the Brisbane Roar back in 2011) isn’t good enoug.

The fans of soccer in Wollongong and the south coast do not support this Sydney bid in no way do we the fans in the Illawarra and south coast support being part of this Sydney bid.
Without the fans you have no bid.
Wollongong has its own bid team in the Wollongong Wolves we all support the Wollongong Wolves bid for inclusion in the A league down Wollongong way and that’s the only bid we support on the south coast.
Mr foster and Mr Murray with all due respect you both never even bothered to come to the south coast to see for your self we are not interest in supporting your Sydney bid.
If you bothered to ask the soccer fans on the south coast you would know there is no support for this Sydney bid down south.
We will not be your third wheel in this train wreck of a bid. Sydney can not support three teams.
South coast soccer fan
Wollongong does not want a merger side. Screw the Dragons and screw future mergers. Wollongong Wolves or nothing at all.
Adam Testa
Divide it between 3 stadium? That’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
John Voliotis
So what happens to Sydney FC? This will take half of there support. Not a good idea.
David De Chiara
Wow Wollongong might get one home game. What a joke. Let us stand alone, look what happened to the Steelers.
Alanna Adams
Bring in the Wollongong Wolves not another Sydney team!
Matt Ivković
This is stupid. There is already a team that covers the St George/Sutherland area – Sydney FC. Bring in the Wollongong Wolves.
Sam Jones
While some of the pro-Wollongong objections are hilariously bad, I am concerned about one thing.
Financial viability ... it is fully dependent on the Chinese property company.
If that one source of funding goes thru their organisational change or collapse, then the whole (proposed) club falls over.
It’s happened to many clubs in China before.
Arthur Lee
St George and the Illawarra region are used to merging, so no issue really.
Ryan Hesford
Who will be left to support Sydney FC? Most of the supporters are from the south!
Missy Olliek
Brilliant Idea
Frank Tomic
If they play at Kogarah, then it’s a good idea
