What a difference four months has made to a Pygmy Marmoset family at Symbio Wildlife Park that had two of its members stolen in late November.
On Good Friday zookeepers had some great news to announce following the arrival of a teenie, tiny bundle of joy for Pygmy Marmoset parents Jo and Gomez.
Their new baby weighs in around 15 grams and marks a new chapter in the lives of the ever growing marmoset family of seven.
The recent event is a far cry from what unfolded just four months ago when the tiny monkey family's world was turned upside when thieves broke into the small Helensburgh zoo and took father Gomez along with one of the new born twins.
Gomez and Sophia’s plight jeopardised not only their lives, but also the close knit family dynamics that the pint sized primates have.
But thanks to the overwhelming generosity and support from media, concerned members of the public and the tireless work of NSW Police the family were reunited within just three days.
They have since been spending their days reconnecting and relishing life together.
Zookeepers say the arrival of a new baby so soon is a testament to all the support Symbio received and showcases the love and nurturing work of everyone at the zoo.
Their goal is to make all the animals feel safe and comfortable in their surroundings so they can breed and bring a new life into the world for many endangered species.
The gender of the new Pygmy Marmoset baby is yet to be determined so it won’t be named for a while.
But reports are that the newborn along with its four siblings and parents are doing really well.
The infant is already starting to lift its head while clinging tight to mum and dad.
Pygmy Marmosets are the world’s smallest monkey and one of the worlds smallest primates.
A a full grown adult measures around 12 to 15cm in length and weighs just 100 grams. A baby is generally the size of a human thumb.
