Claire Blayney has continued her family's long tradition of success at the Sydney Royal Easter show with a win of her own.
The Mortdale teen, 18, won the Young Judges Competition State Final for both soft feather poultry and hard feather poultry.
It is the second show win for her after she took out the hard feather poultry category in 2015.
The Young Judges competition is jointly run by the Royal Agricultural Society and the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW and is open to young people between 15 and 25.
Ms Blayney said breeding poultry was in her blood.
‘’My grandfather started showing poultry when he was eight so it has always been a family tradition,’’ she said.
‘’I always went to the show and watched the junior judging and I knew I wanted to join.’’
Her grandfather is famed Australian Langshan breeder Pat Birchall.
He was named as the 2013 Show Legend to acknowledge his achievements over 65 years of exhibiting, stewarding and judging at the show.
At the time he had earned nearly 1800 ribbons in the Sydney Royal Poultry and Pigeon Competition.
Ms Blayney said she had grown up with a love of poultry.
‘’It’s hard to explain but it’s something I love,’’ she said.
‘’Winning is nice but I like being able to go in the competition and share something with my grandparents.
‘’I feel at home in a poultry shed.’’
She said there was a lot of love and time that went into raising a winning chicken.
‘’You have to have a good bloodline and know when to introduce something new,’’ she said.
‘’It’s more than just the individual, it’s more about the fancy.’’
Her latest win will see her travel to the national final in Adelaide next year.
