Danny, Sandy and all the kids from Rydell High are coming to the Engadine Community Centre this May.
Engadine Musical Society is opening its 2017 season with the smash-hit Grease – the most successful movie musical of all time.
The show promises to take families on a trip down memory lane, and features all the film’s well known and loved hits such as Hopelessly Devoted to You, Greased Lighting, Summer Nights and Beauty School Drop Out.
Director, Paul Oscuro, says that EMS’s production will both honour and reinvent the popular classic.
“The show will have what everyone is expecting – the characters, the songs – but we’re not simply replicating the film.
“We’re putting our own mark on the script and making it fresh for audiences who may have seen the show a thousand times.”
And for those less familiar with the story, it chronicles the friendships, romances and adventures of a group of American high school kids in the 1950s.
It's California 1959 and greaser Danny Zuko and Australian Sandy Olsson are in love. They spend time at the beach during the holidays and then go back to school at Rydell High.
Danny's the leader of the T-Birds, a group of black leather jacket-wearing greasers while Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, a group of pink-wearing girls led by Rizzo.
But Danny isn't the same Danny from the beach. They try to be like each other - but will it cross clique lines?
Helping recreate the energy and enthusiasm of the production is the talented cast led by Andrew Fabris (Danny) and Lacinda Fisk (Sandy).
Andrew is well known to local audiences having performed in more than 30 shows and most recently starring as Link Larkin in The Regals’ Hairspray.
Lacinda is an up-and-coming performer who is currently studying Musical Theatre at ED5 and has a professional career in Musical Theatre in her sights.
The pair are joined by a highly experienced supporting cast which features Kyle Sapsford who returns to EMS after an eight year hiatus.
This break from community theatre saw Kyle perform in The Ten Tenors, Neil Gooding’s Dogfight and the Squabbalogic’s Man of La Mancha.
Grease will be performed at the Engadine Community Centre from May 19 to 28.
