UPDATE | Trains services returning to normal on Illawarra line after six-hour disruption

Update: 12.30:

Sydney Trains says services are returning to normal on the Illawarra line after six hours of disruption.

Update 11am

Delays continue on the Illawarra line after earlier major disruption caused by broken rail.

Update 9am

Delays of up to 25 minutes continue as track repairs are made.

Update 8am:

Buses have been brought in to transport passengers travelling from Sutherland towards Cronulla.

Trains to the City are running regularly, but delays continue.

There is no indication when timetables will return to normal.

There is huge disruption for passengers on the Illawarra line this morning as a result of a broken rail line at Oatley.

Trains are being cancelled and passengers transferred between platforms at Sutherland.

Passengers move platforms for the second time at Sutherland station.

An announcement at Sutherland station said the track at Oatley was broken due to the weather.

Other announcements referred to the broken line being “just before Como”.

Changes were being made at short notice and staff were saying there was no guarantee when the next train would arrive.

Sydney Trains said: “Customers travelling on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line are advised to allow additional travel time due to urgent track equipment repairs at Oatley.

“Customers should also check indicator boards and listen to announcements before boarding your service as stopping patterns and platform changes may occur at short notice.”
