Local barista and high school English teacher Liam Ensor and his team mate El Jo have won silver at the 11th Muffin Break Barista Championship.
They competed again more than 200 baristas across Australia to take home their silver medal.
Crowned best in NSW, Liam and El Jo competed in a grand brew-off with an intense two-day event against all five states, competing in five challenges.
Challenges included a signature latte art design and team work skills where the duo had seven minutes to present judges with 10 cups of coffee including a random mix of macchiato, flat whites, long blacks, lattes, cappuccinos, piccolos, strong (double shot) and soy milk drinks.
Scores were awarded for extraction time, temperature, creativity, contrast, foam and milk quality as well as symmetry of latte art.
Liam’s key to good coffee is down to a science; extraction rates, clean machine and knowing how to get the right temperature to avoid burning milk.
A high school English teacher by trade, Liam is so passionate about coffee he continues to work casually as a barista claiming to have made over 5,000 coffees.
