Cronulla Sharks and St George Illawarra Dragons representatives played starring roles for the Prime Minister’s XIII and the Jillaroos in their clashes in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Tyson Frizell and James Maloney scored tries as Australia’s Prime Minister’s XIII downed a Papua New Guinea Prime Minister’s XIII 48-8.
Maloney added six conversions, with Valentine Holmes and Andrew Fifita also kicking goals.
Dragons prop Paul Vaughan and centre Josh Dugan also turned out for Australia, as did Sharks Wade Graham and Jack Bird.
Meanwhile, Cronulla Sharks women’s stars Corban McGregor, Jessica Sergis and Talesha Quinn all scored tries for the Jillaroos in their 42-4 victory over the PNG Orchids.
The match was Sergis and Quinn’s debut in the green and gold, with Jillaroos coach Brad Donald using the game as a selection trial for the World Cup next month.
