A man has died after he was severely burned during a fire at a Gymea granny flat.
Emergency services were called to the fire just after 1.30am on Saturday after reports a man had been trapped by the flames.
Jeff Lindsell, 39, lived in the granny flat in the backyard of his parents’ home in San Remo Avenue.
His father raised the alarm and tried to save his son, who suffered burns to 70 per cent of his body.
His girlfriend managed to escape and raise the alarm, but he was trapped, 7 News reported
Neighbours saw Mr Lindsell run from the granny flat with his clothes alight, and collapse at the back door of his parents’ home.
He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition however, he died in hospital shortly before 2pm on Monday.
Sutherland police are investigating the cause of the fire .
