Cotton wool kids
Re the comment piece “Children need less therapy, just reassurance” (Opinion, November 1).
Clare Rowe is the best child psychologist available in my opinion.
I have personally dealt with her and couldn’t be happier.
I agree totally with her comments.
Do kids need counseling after a car accident where no one was injured? Of course not.
What, your child stacks their bike and we counsel them?
Go ahead knockers, have a stab but we can’t cotton wool wrap life and kids need to learn to deal with pain, sadness and maybe being called a name.
Just like bullying in school. It’s not nice but a push and shove ended it in the past now school has “sessions” where they expect two kids that don’t get on to be friends.
Yeah that’s intelligent teachers. Do you teachers socialise with other colleagues you don’t really like? Pretty simple huh.

I "love" the parents that detail the child’s "issues" in public to others while the child is present, perpetuating the perceived problem, almost like it’s a badge of honor.

When the article refers to counselling for children that have been in a car accident is that really a bad thing?
I doubt it means individual sessions going on for years.
A debriefing for the kids with a professional is something I would support if my kids were in that situation.
As for the parents putting their kids into counselling to help them deal with not winning all the time is that really the case?
Is it not perhaps the very high achieving child who has a completely inappropriate response to not coming first despite their many achievements. I know kids like that and counselling was a last resort.
To the whole world it looked like everything came so easily to them but at home they were falling apart.

I knew from the article headline that itwould be Clare. She is fantastic.

Great common sense parenting advice.

A lot of the time when parents take kids to therapy it is the parents getting the help more or less. That can’t be a bad thing!!
