RMS invited feedback from affected business owners and is liaising with Sutherland Shire Council about alternative parking.
The proposed clearways, in both directions, are:
- Weekdays, 6am to 7pm.
- Weekends and public holidays: 9am to 6pm.
At present, clearways apply from 6am to 10am northbound and 3pm to 7pm southbound on weekdays, with no restrictions on weekends and public holidays.
Cronulla MP and Attorney-General Mark Speakman released the RMS proposal for new and extended clearways between Captain Cook Bridge and Kingsway, Caringbah.
A spokesman for RMS said there would be no change to parking restrictions outside the new clearway hours.
He said the state government was funding this project as part of its $121 million Clearways Program, which aimed to improve traffic flow and reduce delays by allowing motorists to use all available lanes.
“Since 2013, RMS has installed more than 230 kilometres of new and extended clearways across some of Sydney’s busiest road corridors,” he said.
“As part of this work, RMS investigated business parking along Taren Point Road and identified most businesses have onsite parking for customers.”
The spokesman said discussions were being held with the council about alternative business parking to offset the parking spaces that will be removed as part of changes to the clearway between Box Road and Kumulla Road.”
The spokesman said the number of parking spaces along Box Road next to Gwawley Oval could possibly be increased.
The project team will dbe available on Saturday, November 11 between 10am and 2pm at Caringbah Home Centre to discuss the changes.
