Bayside Council has beefed up its cleaning service in Cook Park after complaints from residents.
Ramsgate residents said they are regularly met with overflowing bins along the stretch of beach and parkland with many bags left opened with food or even nappies inside.
‘’The whole area is being covered with litter,’’ one resident said, who didn’t want to be named.
‘’It is unsightly and a health hazard. It also creates a vermin problem for the area and nearby residents who end up paying for extra for pest control.
‘’This is a daily issue and far worse at weekends. With no proper council management or enforcement the issue will continue making the area unsightly and health hazard- many used nappies are often left throughout the area.
‘’Imagine any resident or visitor to Botany Bay seeing this. It is obviously not good for tourism or the environment.’’
Bayside Council has already made moves to address the problem. A council spokeswoman said during the peak times of November to April additional services were put in place to combat the extra visitors.
That includes bin clean-up increasing to seven days a week- up from the existing five.
An extra afternoon collection will also be scheduled on weekends and public holidays when they are needed.
Around 100 additional garbage organic recovery bins are installed- on top of the existing 200 permanent litter bins.
Cleaning is also boostered in the peak period when council doubles its weekend overtime shifts.
