Caringbah resident Jordan Zunic suffered a heartbreaking play-off loss to Cameron Smith at the Australian PGA Championship on Sunday.
Zunic led by three shots heading into the final round at Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast after a course record-equaling eight under 64 on Saturday. But a one under day on Sunday and Smith’s 68 saw the Queenslander force a play-off.
A Zunic bogey on the second hole was enough for Smith to make a tough up and down to etch his name on the Joe Kirkwood Cup, his first individual win as a professional.
Shire product Matt Jones was in the mix heading into the weekend but a three over 75 on Saturday all but ended his tournament. Jones finished at five under, one stroke behind US Masters champion Sergio Garcia.
A disastrous 74 on Saturday halted Marc Leishman’s charge for the title.
