Southern Sydney has been named as a Lotto hot spot among winners.
The region topped the list with the most frequent division one wins across all games with 24 winners winning more than $35 million.
During the past 12 months, between December 1, 2016 and November 30, 2017, NSW lottery players enjoyed 117 division one prizes and pocketed more than $257.8 million in division one prize money.
NSW had the second highest number of division one wins nationally during the 12 month period, after Victoria, and had Australia’s second highest amount of division one prize money, after Queensland – a prize of $50 million.
NSW Lotteries spokesperson Matt Hart said a total of 77 millionaires were created across the state during the 12 month period – the most of any Australian state and territory.
“2017 will long be remembered by many as a year of big wins for lottery players across NSW,’’ he said.
‘’From truck drivers to teachers, retirees to retail workers, each division one winner had a unique story to tell about what their windfall meant to them and their loved ones.
“While it’s exciting to reveal where the most lotto wins occur, it’s important to remember that lottery games are entertaining games of chance and every number on your ticket has an equal chance of being drawn, no matter where you buy your ticket.
“So while we’ve seen clusters of division one wins in certain areas in each state, these vary from year to year and we’ve seen division one wins land far and wide across New South Wales in both metropolitan and regional areas.”
It comes after an Engadine man won $3.9 million after taking out division one during Satuirday Lotto earlier this month.
It wasn’t the only Lotto win in Engadine with three friends pocketing $1 million in May.
A Miranda man also won more than $1 million in August.
