Inaugural Beach Water Polo Fours at Bundeena a success

A team of Cronulla Water Polo Club players, The Sharkettes, have taken out the inaugural Beach Water Polo Fours tournament at Bundeena.

The Sharkettes downed a team featuring Olympian Bec Rippon in the final on Sunday.

The Bate Bay Body Basher Barbarians made the men’s final but fell to Olympian Johnno Cotterill’s team The Mooses in a penalty shootout.

Eight men’s and five women’s teams came from across Sydney to try out the new format at Horderns Beach on Sunday, with event director Scott Nicholson thrilled to see so many different ability levels on show.

“About 15 per cent of participants haven’t played for a water polo club so it’s really rewarding to know that we were able to introduce the players to the sport in such a relaxed and enjoyable environment,” he said.
