Emergency services across St George and the Sutherland Shire will join forces for two noble causes – cricket and charity.
The 7th annual Emergency Services Mega Bash is returning to Peakhurst on Saturday, January 20.
There will be a cricket tournament between the emergency services, celebrities taking part on the day, sporting clinics for children, rides and stalls, firefighters from the firefighters calender, emergency services vehicles on display and a raffle worth $7000.
It is free to attend and runs from 9am to 5pm at Gannons Park in Peakhurst.
Twelve teams are entered this year from the police, ambulance, fire and rescue, state emergency service and the rural fire service.
A function will also be held after the event hosted by Darryl Brohman, with tickets only $10 which can be purchased at the mega bash.
Organiser Dave Hayes said all money raised on the day would go to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.
“Last year we raised over $27,000 and this year we are aiming for $50,000.”
Mr Hayes said the event came about following a discussion with a friend.
"The mega bash started when a colleague and I were discussing on how we can build camaraderie between emergency services and the community alike,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to engage with each of the emergency services and, by having their vehicles on display, will provide an insight as to how each service provide to protect, serve and keep the community safe.”
The ambulance team are the reigning champions and will look to defend their title in the 10/10 cricket competition.
The celebrities for the event are still being confirmed.
Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation chief executive Nicola Stokes said this kind of fundraising support helped a lot.
“Fundraising is critical to supporting over 69,000 sick kids who come through the doors of Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
“It gives parents and families reassurance that their kids are in the best hands, with hospital staff having the resources they need to provide world class care.”
The evening function will be held at Club Grandviews at 6.30pm on the day, directly behind the oval. Tickets available at the mega bash or by contacting the organisers on firstname.lastname@example.org.
