Family-friendly Australia Day celebrations at Illawong attracted many people not just from the Menai area but also from other parts of Sutherland Shire and further afield.
Held for the fourth year at Blaxland Oval, the event featured a very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room to move, lots of activities for children and an appealing stage show.
Many of the people to whom the Leader spoke said the Cronulla celebration was “too big” and not that good for young children.
Cronulla couple Kate and Matrt Faglioni attended the Illawong event specifically so their son Jake, 2 ½, could see Paw Patrol.
The Westfield Miranda Live Show Paw Patrol was first act up on the stage when the event started at 4pm.
The celebrations start later at Illawong to allow people more time to attend after the citizenship ceremony at Sutherland.
The “Swingshift’ Cold Chisel Show followed Paw Patrol and the entertainment continued into the evening.
