Kirrawee Public School’s uniform has had a colourful transformation this year.
After 67 years of wearing yellow and brown, children now wear a much brighter yellow and navy.
The changes come after an overwhelming 87 per cent of parents voted in favour of a uniform change.
Kindergarten will be the first to wear the new colours, with other pupils having the option to replace their former uniform as they outgrow it.
This will be a three year process with all of the school transitioning to the new uniform by 2021.
Principal Selwyn Willians said the survey showed that the community wanted change.
“The school was always committed to involving its community in decision-making, and was now following through with the community’s wishes,” he said.
“The survey results clearly reflect that the Kirrawee learning community want our uniform to be mordernised - to reflect the fact that we are a 21st century, future-focused school.”
Assistant principal Melissa Oostdam said the new uniforms will make pupils stand out.
“To hear that people were possibly passing us by purely because of the colours of the school uniform was disappointing,” she said.
“Kirrawee will be a vastly different place in the next three to five years and we want to be ahead of that change.”
The school will send any excess supplies of the old uniform including bags to a charity overseas.
