Georges River Council should place historical markers on the Peakhurst South Hall, Mortdale Masonic Temple and the Oatley Bowling Club sites (“Call for historical locations”, Leader, January 31).
These buildings were all demolished by Hurstville Council, in 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Also one on the nature strip in Balmoral Road, Mortdale where four 60-year-old trees were taken out in 2012 on the instruction of three councillors (but not expert council staff).
All four events were strongly opposed by local residents and one councillor, Anne Wagstaff.
Finally, another could go where the council approved a ghastly yogurt stand in Hurstville’s Memorial Square (an insult to the casualties of war) in 2013.
These markers will remind our new councillors to always serve the public in good faith and to keep their reputations intact by avoiding Hurstville’s questionable and controversial practices.
