Rockdale City marked the opening of their new synthetic pitch in style with a 4-1 win over St George FC in a trial match on Sunday night.
More than 3,000 people passed through the gates at the Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday with a number of junior, Skill Acquisition Program and NPL Youth matches also played during the day.
As well as the win in first grade, Rockdale’s under-18s downed St George 2-1 in their trial, while there was a 2-2 draw in the under-20s.
There was also a legends match with the World All-Stars beating the Macedonian All-Stars 3-0.
The Bicentennial Park project became a step closer to reality when Bayside Council accepted a $1.5 million tender in June last year after the plan had first been adopted in October 2015.
Rockdale will host two more pre-season friendlies against Sutherland and Hakoah Sydney City East before their NPL 1 season opener against the Sharks on March 11.
