Mulling over mall upgrade
Re the article ‘‘Cronulla Upgrade Delayed’’ (Leader, February 21).
Sutherland Shire Council can’t afford the mall upgrade. Could someone help me out here?
With the amount of overdevelopment in the shire, where has the money gone from the fees paid by developers and the extraordinary amount of rates being generated from the thousands of new units.
Certainly not on infrastructure to assist us residents to navigate our way around the shire.
Please explain.

The council staff who compiled this report were the very same people who were in charge of the demolition of the Rest Centre.
Investigations into the documents used to demolish the Rest Centre “without consent” are ongoing.
The developers of the bank site offered council $350,000 if their amendments were approved , this meant that they would put an awning out 3 metres, therefore making the Pirate Ship non-compliant.
The $350,000 offered by the developers was only to be spent upgrading Ocean Grove outside their development.
How much have we ratepayers had to pay?
Demolish the Pirate Ship, demolish the Womens Rest Centre for a temporary playground?
They have wasted nearly half a million dollars on an exhibition of a plan they are now shelving because the main message they received they did not like - that was to rebuild the womens rest centre.

Cronulla mall needs a facelift it’s looking really shabby. I knew the woman’s rest centre had gone but was surprised to see that it had been replaced by another children’s playground as if we need another one of those just like we need more units and duplexes in the shire.
Don’t know what’s going on with this council but they certainly are making some pretty poor choices these days.

How about doing upgrades to other suburbs in the shire for once? Parts of Caringbah, Sutherland, Gymea need a facelift.
