RE the article “F6 more like F1 ½’’ (Leader, March 21).
Our ministers are captured by the powerful donor interests placing private corporate profits ahead of public benefit.
I’m disappointed with Mark Speakman, MP Cronulla, has revealed he is part of that pack, misleading his electorate by spruiking the glossy PR spin of the F6 extension of the bungled WestConnex.
The only winners are corporates, like Transurban, reaping substantial private profits at our expense.
Transport planning fundamentals have long shifted from roads to public transport. This is critical to improve how we get about our city.
It’s key to attract business to relocate to where we live, and to improve our health with less pollution and more exercise.
Our government chooses to ignore modern transport planning that adopts the multi-mode approach of trains, car, buses, walking and bike, the combination interacting and complementing each other. No mode dominating.
We can’t all cycle, and we need to shop at times. Nor is it possible for a city to function focusing on car-only transport. Just look at the traffic jams around you for proof.
So ministers spruik, look at the public transport we are building! Ripping up existing rail lines for what is, crudely, more property development under the guise of metro. Not new assets. Another bungled farce.
No other city is stupid enough to return to the 1960s motorway madness, like we are in Sydney. But then, we know who is the tail wagging the dog.

F6 Freeway - 1950’s out dated concept
The F6 Freeway was gazetted in 1951. During the same period the last woman was hanged in Australia, the first young men were called up for National Service and the Federal Government approved British nuclear weapons testing on Australian soil.
No government these days would seriously consider reintroducing the death penalty, national service or nuclear weapons testing.
So why then is the Berejiklian government hell-bent on constructing an out dated and flawed transport concept from the 1950’s?

So 24 hour clearways are under consideration round Princes Hwy and Grand Pde.
Bus stops are being removed in Peakhurst and Penshurst on M91 route.
Trains no longer stop at all local stations. What is the point of having a business at a prominent location if customers cannot stop and come in.
Further, why have public transport that does not have time to stop and let commuters on and off.
