RE “Brick pit housing rumours quashed” (Leader, March 21).
The article reporting there is no truth to rumours that up to 100 of the units in the brick pit development would be available for public or affordable rental housing raises some disturbing concerns.
The attitudes demonstrated by DeiCorp and those clearly worried by the rumours are hard-hearted and elitist. There are many people in the community who, through no fault of their own, are doing it tough.
They include families where one parent is working but with years of stagnating wages and with house prices reaching astronomical levels, they simply cant afford to buy in the shire.
And those same people may have all their family connections here.
Are we so selfish as a society that we are quite happy to exclude those less well-off from buying or renting in our community?
It appears to be the case. And that is shameful.
