Two major projects have wrapped up at Laguna Public School, thanks to the extraordinary efforts of parents.
Its final P&C initiatives costing $55,000 were pinned as three-to-four-year plans, outlined as key projects for the school.
In the past 12 months, the old asphalt basketball court was resurfaced, with the addition of new posts that will also be used for netball and volleyball.
The canteen was also refurbished as part of the school’s Nutrition Ambition program.
Cronulla MP Mark Speakman helped fund the canteen project with a $30,000 grant from Community Building Partnerships program.
P&C president, Matt Aitken said parents invested $400,000 into the school in the past five years.
“We set about with a deliberate plan of enhancing the facilities and resources for the better of the students, teachers and the community,” he said.
He says the canteen also now offers healthier options.
“The view is to have the canteen make more food fresh on site, free of preservatives, artificial colours and flavours,” he said.
“Small changes to the menu such as removing Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) items and providing a wider variety of gluten free options have already been implemented, as well as the introduction of some freshly baked goods.”
Pupils will be given the opportunity to taste test and vote for healthy food options.
