An international student from Sutherland is among those who will be given an insight into the world of policing.
More than 20 students from at least 11 countries will experience hands-on exercises with the NSW Police Force.
They were chosen as ambassadors under a program funded by StudyNSW, which supports international student welfare at university and TAFE campuses.
Oksana Vronska, of the Ukraine, is studying at the University of Technology, Sydney.
During the two-day program, participants will experience different aspects of policing at the Richmond Training College, including a police negotiation scenario and session with the Dog Unit.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller says the program is a fantastic opportunity for young people of different backgrounds to understand the world of modern policing.
“We are always looking to strengthen our relationship with the community and this is a great way to improve understanding of what police officers do and why they do it,” he said.
“The program gives students a greater confidence in law enforcement, which is essential in working together to prevent and investigate crime.”
StudyNSW and the NSW Police Force will also launch a safety and crime prevention online video, Stay Safe in our State – advice for international students, subtitled in nine languages including topics dealing with police and personal safety.
The project is a joint initiative between StudyNSW, Council of International Students Australia and Wollongong Police District.
