Leagues club flashback
The Leader Flashback (March 2) of the building of the Sharks leagues club back in the early seventies, brought back memories as I was part of a team of tradesmen employed by Coca Cola. We spent around two weeks installing the bar post mix equipment from the cellar up to the auditorium, back then each bar had latest soft drink liquor taps combo for the fast service of drinks. I’ll always have fond memories of working on the leagues club.

Made to shop, endlessly
Re “Community may lose hub” (Leader, March 14). No library at Kirrawee brickpit? Even the prison in Shawshank Redemption had a library! I guess council wants us to be prisoners of our own suburbs, free from thought but made to shop, endlessly.
Dr Mark Ho, Kirrawee
Councils ‘lose empathy’
Not so long ago, if you parked outside your own home, albeit in a 2-Hour parking zone, and got a parking ticket, you could walk up to the nice people at Kogarah Council in Belgrave Street and they’d happily waive the fine if you purchased a parking permit sticker. Now Georges River Council will sell you the same sticker but the fine is – not their problem. When did local councils lose their empathy with their residents?

Thanks for the chats
RE the article “Russell hangs up scissors” (Leader, March 21). Sad to see you go Russ but happy for you mate. Thanks for chats and jokes ... and the hair cuts.

Keep that broom handy
With reference to the article "Big clean washes Kogarah" (Leader, March 14). I certainly hope Anthony and Freddy don’t put their cleaning equipment away too soon. The Riverwood shopping centre could do with a good spruce up as well. On second thoughts I think council have forgotten where Riverwood is. The "garden" beside the railway station is an eyesore and needs a complete over haul, and the ibis that perch in the shrubs during the night constantly foul the pavement. A lot more could be done to make the centre more attractive.

Burgerlicious idea
RE “Gluten-free Beach Buns Burgers given official tick of approval” (Leader, March 21). I'm so happy to have seen this as I can now take my 7-year-old coealiac out for a burger. She'll be over the moon!

That’s great news as I also have coeliac disease and I do love my burgers.
