Southern Districts have shot straight to the top of the Shute Shield table with a 62-7 thrashing of Penrith in the opening round on Saturday.
The Rebels ran in 10 tries to one at Forshaw Rugby Park with forwards Marcus Carbone and Alex Perez scoring doubles.
Hooker Liam Dwyer and Angus Ryan also scored five pointers, with wingers Rowland Kotobalavu and Christian Kagiassis and centres Denny Godinet and Viliami Latu also crossing.
Kagiassis also kicked six goals, while the Rebels overcame the loss of Filimone Tufui after he was sent to the sin bin.
Taliaolega Tuaau scored Penrith’s only try.
The win also earned Souths a bonus point as well as a healthy early boost to their for and against.
The Rebels travel to Concord Oval to face West Harbour in round two on Saturday. The Pirates fell 15-12 to Eastern Suburbs in the opening round.
In other round one results, 2017 premiers Warringah lost their grand final rematch 27-18 to last year’s beaten finalists Northern Suburbs, Sydney University downed Parramatta 36-12, Manly beat Eastwood 32-12 and Randwick smashed Gordon 48-5.
It was also a happy day for Southern Districts in the lower grades, with second grade thrashing Penrith 104-0 thanks to four tries from fullback Jack Conen and a hat-trick to No.8 Harry McLennan.
Souths won third grade 102-5 while they thrashed the Emus 89-0 in fourth grade to have won the day by an incredible 357 points to 12.
