As we approach Anzac Day (April 25) and later in the year Armistice day (November 11) the Woronora River RSL Sub Branch has set this year’s theme of Peace to commemorate and celebrate the centenary and end of World War 1.
For more than 100 years we have had to endure the sad realities of wartime stories as told by our servicemen and women who spoke of the feats of our war heroes, the victories and defeats, the many conflicts that were fought and those who made the supreme sacrifice.
It was important for them to address and share their experiences as a way of expressing the horrors of war and as a healing process.
Let’s make this year’s services a joyous occasion for a change.
Our traditional program will comprise the reciting of a peace poem, a prayer for peace, appropriate Australian traditional wartime ballads that everyone can singalong too.
The guest speakers address will be entitled ‘‘war and peace’’.
Finally, 10 peace doves will be released at the end of the service to the sound of John Lennon’s song, Imagine.
Imagine a world with peace.
