The Saints continued to march on Friday night, downing Cronulla 40-20 in an electric derby clash at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.
St George Illawarra remain at the top of the NRL table after the 20-point victory, storming to a perfect six wins from as many games to start the season.
In front of almost 18,000 fans in Wollongong, the Dragons ran in six tries to four with exciting young fullback Matt Dufty scoring twice.
Gareth Widdop’s boot made the scoreboard more comfortable for the hosts with four penalty goals.
The Sharks will be left to lick their wounds having lost four of their opening six matches. They also lost experienced forwards Paul Gallen (knee), Andrew Fifita (knee), Wade Graham (quadriceps) and Luke Lewis (knee) to injury during the game.
The Dragons will look to continue their unblemished start to the season, which has included two derby wins over Cronulla, when they travel to New Zealand to face the Warriors on Friday.
The Sharks need to bounce back – and quickly – when they host Penrith next Sunday.
