An investigation is underway following a fire at Gymea.
About 1.30am today, emergency services were called to Chapman Street following reports of a fire underneath a unit block.
Upon arrival, police located a garage under the unit block to be well alight, with the blaze being extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW.
A number of residents were evacuated as a precaution.
Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but initial inquiries suggest the fire is suspicious.
