A critical investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Rockdale.
Emergency services were called to a unit on Hayburn Avenue, about 9pm yesterday following reports of a violent domestic related incident.
On arrival, officers located a 54-year-old man with several injuries. Police attempted to speak to the man however, his condition deteriorated.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being transported to St George Hospital, where he later died.
An 82-year-old woman was also treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Officers from St George Police Area Command established a crime scene and a critical incident team will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
That investigation will be subject to an independent review and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
No further details are available at the time; however, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
