The inaugural Brighton Beachside Dash was run in 2008.
More than 1100 runners turned out on October 12 for the event over a 10 kilometre course, starting at Dolls Point and following the bayside path to Kyeemagh and back to the finishing line in Peter Depena Reserve.
Shorter distance races were included for those unable to run the full course.
The event raised $78,500 for the St George Medical Research Foundation.
Foundation chief executive David Tipler said the event “well exceeded initial expectations”.
“We hoped we would get about 500 runners, who would raise about $30,000,” he said.
David Byrne, of Coogee, won the 10 kilometre section in 31 minutes, 33 seconds.
Hollie Emery, of Penrith, was the first female to cross the line, in 35 minutes, 32 seconds.
Mr Tipler said many runners commented on the beautiful course.
“The feedback I have been getting is that it put the fun back into fun run,” he said.
Some of the fun came from a Catch a Dragon initiative, which involved 10 runners in dragon suits setting the pace for other runners.
The event, now known as the St.George Bank Beachside Dash, continues to be a major fundraising event for the foundation, which has been renamed St George & Sutherland Medical Research Foundation.
The dash will be held for the eleventh time on Sunday, September 9, 2018.
