Cronulla got their 2018 season back on track with a 26-22 win over high-flying Penrith on Sunday.
More than 12,000 fans packed into Shark Park on a glorious autumn afternoon in the shire to see a gutsy Cronulla performance.
Already without Paul Gallen and Wade Graham through injury, the Sharks lost stand-in captain Luke Lewis to a calf strain inside the opening 13 minutes.
But senior players Andrew Fifita, Josh Dugan, Chad Townsend and Matt Moylan helped lead the Sharks to their third victory of the season.
There was also a first NRL try for local boy Scott Sorensen, nephew of Dane and Kurt Sorensen, a superb slaloming solo effort just before half-time.
The Sharks will look to back up the win when they travel to the Gold Coast to take on the Titans on Saturday night.
