The Anzac tradition has a new home in Bundeena.
After the Bundeena RSL Club was destroyed by fire three years ago, its future and that of the local RSL Sub-branch was uncertain.
After a long period of negotiations the social club that was the tenant of the building bought the burned-out shell from the NSW RSL.
But they only had limited funds and had to explore new avenues to rebuild.
Room with a view: The new Bundeena clubhouse has been designed to take advantage of its unique position overlooking Port Hacking.
An unlikely saviour in the form of Cabra Bowls stepped forward and proposed an amalgamation.
This was ultimately accepted by the membership of both clubs, and Cabra Bowls decided to build a brand-new state-of-the-art club.
The new club was renamed Bundeena Community and Services Club and had its official opening on April 21.
“We as a community have been waiting for this moment for three long years,” a club spokesperson said.
“We couldn’t be more happy with our new club. All this wouldn’t have been possible without our parent club Cabra Bowls Group and we look forward to a long and prosperous journey for both clubs moving forward.
“We have a new chef who will help position us as one of the premier destinations in southern Sydney, and our state-of-the-art facilities at last takes advantage of its amazing position overlooking Port Hacking.”
Community hub: After waiting "three long years" Bundeena residents now have their community gathering spot back and with a fresh new look.
This year Bundeena RSL Sub-branch will mark Anzac Day at the new club.
More importantly, the Sub-branch again has a permanent home where the Ode of Remembrance will be recited every evening.
New face in town: Bundeena Community and Services Club has opened a brand-new state-of-the-art clubhouse.
Following the traditional Anzac service, Bundeena will be ready to show the world its stylish new clubhouse.
