A public reserve on the F6 corridor at Miranda has become a materials stockpile site for a major road improvement project at Kirrawee.
It is the second time within three years the reserve, at the intersection of Kingsway and Sylvania Road, has been fenced off.
It was previously leased to allow the installation of a portable sales office-display suite for the nearby Palisade apartments development.
Miranda resident John Brett said the land was sign posted as a public reserve, and was a site where children used to play.
“It was taken by a developer to promote the sale of high rise units and is now fenced off from the public again,” he said.
Mr Brett said the fence should be removed, the area turfed and returned as public open space.
A spokeswoman for Roads and Maritime Service, which owns the land, said a stockpile site had been established as part of work on improvements to the intersections of Acacia Road, Oak Road, Kingsway and President Avenue at Kirrawee.
“These improvements are being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $300 million Gateway to the South Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s key southern corridors,” she said.
“The stockpile site will remain in place until the project is completed in late 2019.”
