Amanda McGilchrist has impressed in the numbers game.
The Bethany College Hurstville year 10 student received a perfect score in the Grok Learning 2018 Web Comp, an international coding competition completed by 6000 students from countries including Malaysia, America and the United Kingdom.
Her score followed another impressive result of a high distinction in the previous year’s challenge.
Amanda, who has a strong interest in software engineering, said the competition involved answering questions about HTML and CSS coding languages across five weeks.
“I find it easier than learning a new [spoken] language,” she said.
Bethany’s Information and Software Technology teacher, Theresa Chisari, says coding teaches students higher-order thinking through exercises including website design.
“It’s [also] great to see girls take an interest in coding,” she said.
