First-timers found a tango beat they couldn't resist when a local group hosted an afternoon of dance.
Since 2013, Tango Sur Dance Club has been spreading the word of tango in the Shire, with lessons and social gatherings for anyone interested in learning about the art of the dance.
Members recently hosted their first afternoon tea tango dance at Jannali Community Centre.
The event aimed to bring together more experienced dancers with those who are taking their first steps, as well as create awareness of the presence of tango and its benefits within the local community.
Group spokesman Pablo Lara said many new people came to dance.
“Some came just to listen because they love the music and, in doing so, they found themselves taking their first tango steps,’’ Mr Lara said.
“Tango is a universal, all-time and ageless dance initially born from the mix of different cultures and musical rhythms at harbour shores of Argentina and Uruguay at the end of the 19th century.”
Tango classes are held at Jannali Community Hall every Thursday from 7.30pm. Singles and couples are welcome. For more information email pablo@tangosuraustralia.com.
