Candles lit up Don Lucas Reserve at Wanda tonight, alongside messages of hope for loved ones lost yet not forgotten.
The bright glows held close to the hearts of the community also represented the courage of survivors, as they gathered with family, friends and colleagues under the night’s sky.
Participants and supporters in this year’s Sutherland Shire Relay for Life were there in their thousands during a day of walking side-by-side, together for cancer awareness and prevention.
The event took a more serene turn with the candlelight ceremony at dusk – a time of reflection and remembrance to support those living with cancer and to honour those lost to the disease.
This weekend’s fundraiser has raised about $300,000 and is well on the way to beating last year’s record achievement of close to $400,000.
The relay wraps up tomorrow, Sunday, May 6, following an honourary survivor’s and carer’s lap.
