Fred and Valda Lemon of Oyster Bay celebrated 60 years of marriage with family and friends on May 17.
Daughter Francine Parker said her father grew up in St Peters and met Valda at a dance in the shire.
Valda grew up in Kirrawee. Her father was the manager of the Sutherland site of Punchbowl Brick and Pipe company from 1949-1960, the former site of the current development of South Village.
Fred was known in the shire as “Fred the friendly fencer”, and was still working as the local fencing contractor in his 70s. Before that he had worked for Canterbury Brickyards carting bricks.
He is a life member at Como Jannali Football Club, having coached and managed teams for many years, including his grandson’s teams.
Valda worked in the fashion industry before her marriage and then again when her children were older.
The couple built their home at Oyster Bay where they still live today.
They have three daughters and six grandchildren and are dedicated to not only each other, but their entire family, Ms Parker said.
