Sutherland produced a superb smash and grab job on Marconi, running out 2-0 winners over the Stallions on Saturday night.
A Joshua Da Silva double at Marconi Stadium saw the Sharks take the three points back to the shire after the hosts had striker Sean O’Connell sent off seven minutes before half-time.
Da Silva had given Sutherland the lead after 17 minutes when he was played in by winger Leroy Jennings.
Sharks goalkeeper Ryan Norval was outstanding for the visitors making a number of key saves to keep Marconi out.
But Sutherland were to seal victory seven minutes from full-time when Adrian Vranic led a Sharks counter attack. With Marconi in search of an equaliser and short at the back, Vranic unselfishly played in Da Silva to score his second.
Sutherland coach Grant Lee paid tribute to his side after their loss to league leaders Sydney Olympic last week.
“It was very important to get back in the winner’s circle. We had got ahead of ourselves in the last few weeks but we got back to what we did best. I thought the boys thoroughly deserved it tonight,” he said.
“Marconi has built a heck of a squad. They have match winners across the park but we stood firm and Ryan Norval was superb across the 90 minutes. So we’re happy to take the points.”
Sutherland’s win sees them remain in fifth place and on track to secure a finals place as the NPL 1 season reaches its midway point. The Sharks host high-flying Blacktown City at Seymour Shaw Park on Saturday night.
