Georges River Council was expected to endorse the reappointment of Morris Iemma as District Commissioner for the Southern District of the Greater Sydney Commission.
District Commissioners for the five Greater Sydney Districts are appointed by the NSW Minister for Planning on the recommendation of relevant local councils.
Mr Iemma’s term at District Commissioner is due to expire in September.
The endorsement of his reappointment was recommended at this week’s meeting of the council’s Environment and Planning Standing Committee.
Mr Iemma, who was NSW premier from 2005-2008 was appointed District Commissioner in May, 2016.
As District Commissioner, Mr Iemma shapes the future planning direction for Sydney’s Southern District which includes Hurstville, Kogarah, Rockdale, Canterbury and Sutherland Shire.
