Labor Leader Bill Shorten made a surprise visit to Bayside Council’s recent Seniors Garden Party.
The Seniors Garden Party is one of the council’s popular annual events and this year over 800 senior residents turned out for a morning of food, friendship and familiar music at Sir Joseph Banks Park on Sunday, May 6.
Mr Shorten praised the event organised by Bayside Council.
“All councils should put on an event as good as this for senior citizens,” Bill Shorten said, addressing the crowd.
This Seniors Garden Party started with about 300 guests and with another 500 tickets released to cater for the increased interest from seniors it was moved to a larger venue at Sir Joseph Banks.
“This event, recognising the contribution our senior residents make to our community, gets better every year,” Bayside Council mayor Bill Saravinovski said.
